Travelling to Vung Tau: All about it you may want to know

1. Where to stay?
Vung Tau is a high-price tourist spots, especially at the weekend and in the peak season. You can find a hotel with reasonable price at Thuy Van Street (Back Beach) or at a resort complex.

The price for rent here is normally from 300 000 VND to 500 000 VND, but up to 600 000 VND to 1million VND at the weekend. So, it is advisable for you to go around until finding an affordable hotel.
Besides, you may also meet “brokers” who try to introduce you some hotels. If they make you uncomfortable, just directly say “no” to them and find your own suitable hotel.

2. When to go sea bathing?
Our goal to Vung Tau is for sea bathing. This place has many beautiful beaches such as Vong Nguyet, Chi Linh, Doi Nhai.

Early morning, about 5-6 am is a good time for watching sunset; then you can go sea bathing without worry of cold. If afraid of sunstroke, you should not swim after 9 am to stay healthy.
The beach normally gets crowded from 16 pm, but it is also an ideal time for sunbathing. A small note for you: the sun is most harmful from 12am to 4pm, so try to avoid sunbathing during this time.

3. Where to go?
The followings are popular tourist highlights at Vung Tau: Buddha Statue, Jesus Christ Statue, White Palace, Thang Tam Temple, Niet Ban Tinh Xa Monastery, Hon Ba Temple, Linh Son Pagoda, Lighthouse, and Worldwide Arm Museum.

4. What to eat?
Vung Tau is well-known with a number of specialities like “banh khot” (small savory pancakes), oyster porridge, grilled octopuses, “banh canh” (Vietnamese thick noodle soup) and different kinds of seafood.

At night, many delicious dishes are out there in Back Beach of Vung Tau. The most favourite dish is grilled octopus with affordable price of 60,000 – 90,000 VND.
You can buy some of these delicious food and stroll along the beach looking for an ideal place for eating.
In case you are in love with fresh crabs but too afraid of being cheated, let’s head to the market in ward 1, Tran Hung Dao Street. Depend on types of crabs, the price is about 250, 000 VND – 350,000 VND. If you prefer eating them right away, local people boil the crabs for you.

The crabs of 120,000 VND, usually the dead crabs, are also smaller than the fresh ones.
If you’d like to buy crabs as presents, crabs will be carefully packed for transporting without losing their quality.
Souvenirs, most of which made from seashells, are sold at the coastal paths. They are designed as ornaments or jewelries.

It is easy to get Vung Tau from Ho Chi Minh City by car or ferry. Traveling by car via Ho Chi Minh - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway (about 95 km) normally takes 1hour 20 to get there.
